How many universes are out there?

I read a report today that states that there could be millions of universes out there. It said where ever there is a sun like star there is a possibility that there could be a earth like planet with life in it!! Wow.. this means there are people out there, just like us in distant galaxies.. Isn't it fascinating to even think about this? Won't it be even more fascinating to meet these people??

better PR for CIA and FBI

take a look at some recent movies where work for FBI or CIA is main story (departure, bourne identity, body of lies, burn before reading) the main actor, di caprio or matt daemon work there and all end up not trusting the boss, they hate the agency, turn against it and then leave. message is that work there fucks up their lives and minds. seriously, after watching these movies why would people want to go work there? i mean what kind of normal people would want to work there?

CIA should use its influence to make these movies give message that it's cool to work there. use covert influence to give positive spin. they need better PR department or they be stuffed forever with fuck up individuals who take pleasure from the fact that their employer fucks them up. MI6 must do same with 007, in last 2 movies with daniel craig she is a crap employer to work for, he can't trust her...

Ban metaphors??

I got into an argument by the elevator at my work with a girl from NY. She was rude and said to me 'Honey, you can kiss my ass if you like but what you're asking will never happen' She had a nice ass, so I went behind her, bent down and started kissing her ass on top of her skirt. She shocked and started screaming at me 'What are you doing, get off me, I'll sue you' then I said to her in my Belgian accent, you asked me to kiss your ass so I did. If you don't mean it don't ask for it. You're in Europe and you have nice ass, what do you expect? She can't sue me because she asked for it. See the metaphor trap?

what's the real catwalk like? :)

did you know that many high couture fashion brands (christian dior, vivienne westwood, lv) have been accused of exposing models to dangerous and harmful conditions on the catwalk? some catwalks stretch up to 45 meters long and make it impossible for models to stay upright with a combination of extremely high heels and a slippery catwalk! but that's nothing compared to the real catwalk where you take the high heels off, put on the cat uniform, drink a few bottles of wine and then try to tiptoe with grace from one empty bottle to the next. cheers!

swimming pool with mirrors

the other day I was at the pool swimming and the guy swimming behind tried to overtake me. he moved to the left and as he was passing he crashed head-to-head with another guy coming in the opposite direction. ouchh!, that must have hurt, it reminded like those rams that fight and hit each other head to head. man it was hilarious and painful. anyways, had a thought right there so here it comes: place mirrors on the bottom of the pool so you can see yourself and others near you. haven't seen it anywhere so far.

Is this a good idea for my girlfriend?

I was told to do this for our anniversary. Buy her eleven real red roses and one artificial red rose. Place the artificial rose in the center of the bouquet. Attach a card that says:

"I will love you until the last rose fades."

I would laugh but at the end it wouldn't be so romantic. It would be more funny than romantic. It's up to you if you want to do something funny and smart instead of something purely romantic

Do I look fat?

Why am I always asked this question by girls who are much thinner than me? Why do I have to look as if I'm the one with the fat when I'm quite slim for my height? Why don't these fat-obsessed skinny girls stop asking Me this question? Every time they ask me, I look myself in the mirror after. I don't want to but I tend to. If I have a bad day I tell them they put on weight. I don't want to be mean but I can't help it. If I must be asked, I just wish it was done by someone who is not thinner than me. What are the chances that I'll be asked by someone with serious fat issues? None so far...

YouTube Dictionary

I think an online multi-language Video Dictionary is still missing from the web. Text definitions should be replaced with voice and image definitions. An online dictionary where users upload video definitions of words using images, video clips and presentations. Since it would require large storage capacity, I thought You Tube would be the ideal platform for it.

Could you live without the internet?

Before you answer yes or no, take a few seconds to consider the deal (I would appreciate it if you can also leave a comment to explain your choice). Here's the deal. You are instantly handed as much money as you want in return for giving up use of the internet in your life. You are free to fill up the amount on a blank check with enough space on it to add as many digits and zeros as you like. You become filthy rich in a few seconds if you take the money. But no internet any more! Do you take the money and give up use of the internet?

emotion or logic

When I have to take a personal decision I usually follow my instinct and my emotions. It's very hard for me to follow my logic even when I know that is what I have to do. I try to work on that. Any suggestions?

Emotions have a logic too, use your logic to understand their logic and follow the logic of your logic in taking control over your emotions. Why don't you try work on that?

I'm an author and I made this library deal

Yesterday I got the idea to borrow a book of mine from a university library. I had written it 5 years ago. I felt lucky and honored that 2 people in total had borrowed and read it. After all, two is a bigger number than zero, right? Before checking with the library, I had the fear that no one would have read it though I secretly hoped that someone would be out there to disprove me. One of the 2 borrowers, probably the second one to borrow the book, was kind enough to use a pencil and make notes on the side, underline certain passages or put other parts in brackets.

He or she was merciless with the marks so I ended up following easily all traces left on almost every page in my book. But I wasn't getting upset. Ok, initially I was but as I kept following the marks from page to page, I suddenly found it to be a very revealing exercise, if not amusing!

And it just opened up my appetite. I visited as many public libraries there are where I live, looking to borrow more copies of my book so that I could trace more of my readers' marks, compare them and possibly detect patterns in their reactions to my writing.

The experience fascinated me. These days you can get instant reviews on your work online but they bore me. When people write reviews they get into 'review mode', which makes it more probable that you will get an idea of what people think about your book but more difficult to get a real sense of how people felt while reading it.

Besides people tend to exaggerate on reviews, others play the whole work down and often for reasons you can't be sure of. But for someone like me who doesn't believe honest reviews exist, seeing how my readers were marking their reactions as they read my book was quite fun.

So I went to propose this deal to the library people. For every copy of my book that gets returned highlighted, underlined or marked in any way, they will notify me by email and put it on hold for me until I happily replace it with a clean copy for the library. Of course, I get to keep the marked copy.

I figured that if my rate of book markings is 1 book every 5 years, it's definitely worth the cost for I get to keep the traces of my readers' reactions. The library people were naturally happy with the deal.

But so was I!

Now I'm debating with myself whether I should contact more libraries around the world that have my book in their stacks and ask for the same deal...so tempted!

When two women have sex or kiss each other...

Does that make them lesbian? Most people will say no. If two women are having sex why is it that people are more willing to accept that the girls might just be playing or trying out a sex fantasy without calling them lesbians? To call a girl a lesbian she must really hate men or be in a relationship with another girl but just having sex with another girl is not enough to call her lesbian. Of course, the opposite is not true. If two men make out how many people, men or women, do you think will be willing to accept that they might be 'just experimenting' without being gay? Don't you think women are luckier in freely experiencing their sexuality without being labeled?

Why Bush should Never have called it 'The War On Terror'

The US was able to torture terrorists captured in Afghanistan and elsewhere using 'enforced interrogation' techniques on 'enemy combatants' whom it refused to call 'prisoners of war'. That's because 'prisoners of war' are covered by the Geneva Convention which strictly bans torture. Yet our so smart former President repeatedly stated the country is at war all those years and kept calling it 'The War on Terror'. It follows by definition that in any war, prisoners can Only be prisoners of war. Duh! Do you see why Bush should never have, not even once, called it 'The War on Terror'? Define stupidity if you can't see the imbecility and you'll figure it out.

With Obama stating that 'enhanced interrogation' is torture, we have, as a country, irrevocably damaged our moral high ground on human rights. We have also perfected practicing hypocrisy and imbecility combined as our very inalienable and totally unique skill set. What a great accomplishment to lock ourselves in never-ending ridicule by the rest of the world!

Smarter password security

Do you save the answers in a security question to a file in your computer? How secure do you think this practice is? When you answer a typical security question, such as what was your first teacher's name, do you check to see if you have already put that information somewhere on your blog, MySpace or Facebook profile? I'm also curious about people's attitudes towards hacking. If someone was hacking into your account but was inflicting a very small, almost insignificant and undetectable damage/change to your privacy, data or financial statement would you rather know about it or not?

To give you an example, suppose the hacker changed one of your 30 or so interests you listed on one of your many profile pages from sailing into rowing, would you really bother to spend the time and effort to improve your security or would you rather let the incident go unanswered until a more serious intrusion happened?

I'm sure people would want to know if a big intrusion occurred but what about a very small one?

Why deposit money in the bank when you can print on-demand?

I was thinking, why doesn't it make sense to keep money under our mattresses? That's because it's inconvenient and not safe in the event of house theft. That's one reason we have banks. Since many banks were taken over by governments to survive the crisis, I figured there must be a way to deal with the inconvenience of having banks and the safety issue of keeping all our money with us be it under the mattress, inside it or over it. I mean, if we really wanted to do it, we could. Here's my thinking:

Banks are replaced with print-money government shops. Unlike a normal deposit bank, customers don't deposit money, they only withdraw using a regular ATM card. The print-money government shop won't keep stacks of money in a safe box. It will only print money for the customer who owns it. Its function is to print money on-demand!

That means that if you own $1 million dollars you can go to the print-money shop and get all your $1 million with you. But, you can't deposit it back.

Because you can't deposit it back, people will tend to print-withdraw only the amounts they need to carry their transactions.

The difference with a regular bank is that the customer doesn't have to worry that the bank might lose or run out of money since the only thing available in the government print-money shop will be printers. The printers will be the same kind of machines the FED uses to print money. The only run on the bank can be a manufacturing strike on paper or ink!

For the amount of remaining balance in your account you haven't printed yet, the government will offer you interest on it which will have to be slightly below the rates deposit banks currently charge and definitely below the rates the government borrows in the form of bonds and T-bills from national and international investors.

My proposed architecture will probably revolutionize bank robberies too. The challenge won't be to break into and out of the bank but to forge money. Remember the movie 'Catch me if you can' with Leonardo di Caprio? That's how bank robbers will operate in the new system.

Or if they know you went to the money-print government shop and withdrew all your millions to stash it under your mattress, they might pay you a visit when you're out.

So don't hoard your cash in your house, just print it on-demand! :)

Beware Greeks inspiring sex strikes!

I read on the news that women in Kenya are on sex strike to force the government and opposition to stop bickering and look after the interest of their country. Although I've never been to Kenya, I think the news tell us that women must have no political power in that country. Why would they use sex to bring political change otherwise? In the article I read that the strike was inspired by Ancient Greece. In Aristophane's comedy Lysistrata, the ladies of 5th century BC Athens withheld sex from their menfolk to force them to put an end to the Peloponnesian war!

I must admit I haven't read Aristophane's original guide to a sex strike, but I have the following two observations to make. First, it is well known that homosexuality was strongly practiced in Ancient Greece, so how effective could a sex strike really have been? Second, assuming the strike can be very effective, could It have been the culprit that drove men into homosexuality?

If Aristophane's comedy was an inspiration to women in Kenya, my advice is to be careful about how long they carry out the strike. Ancient Greece was the bastion of homosexuality so it might not be the best example to follow :)

new viruses

I don't understand how new viruses come across so often , especially related to animals when medicine is so much developed. Could someone explain this to me?

progress in med is completely unrelated to new viruses. Humans always had to face the challenge of new viruses. Now we're just more able to face them

10,000 reasons to be upset at humans if you're a PIG!

I've been called a pig in my life before so I'll imagine being a pig for a moment and see what it's like. Being killed by humans and eaten up for my taste gives me more than 10,000 reasons to be upset at them. What really hurts my feelings, however, is when I get falsely accused for passing the virus to humans and then scientists discover it was actually a Mexican farmer who first passed it to pigs Nobody apologizes to me. When I realize that billions of Muslims and vegetarians around the world don't eat me not because they respect me like a holy cow is respected in India but because they consider me dirty and filthy and bad for health, the blow to my feelings is just too heavy to take...which makes me think that being called a pig might not be so insulting considering that Being a pig and raised in a world ruled by humans is such tough life :((

Swimimng pool thoughts

People these days post their thoughts from anywhere thanks to iphones and blackberries. This convenience is liberating because you can't make a date with your thoughts and expect that they stick to it. I know I do a lot of thinking when I swim and like to swim every day if I could. It's rhythmic, quiet and soothing. I think of it as meditating in water and most swimmers I know think the same. On my way to my regular swim yesterday I was thinking that the pool is one of those places where people can't post their thoughts as they come to them. In my view, many good thoughts are wasted because swimmers do a lot of thinking in the water but it's very hard to remember them after.

I could take the blackberry with me and have it by the side of the pool but I am always worried someone might accidentally step on it or drop it in the water. I know it's probably too much to have touch keypad waterproof screens on the side or at the end of each lap only for people to post their thoughts. But if the screens were mainly used to take measurements from lap times to heartbeats similar to what people get in a sport gyms from a running machine, it probably wouldn't be difficult to connect the device to the internet and allow people to post thoughts from within the pool as they take breaks.

I think we should keep pay phones in place

I understand it doesn't make business sense to be on the pay phone industry any more. ATnT pulled out of the pay phone business a few years ago and payphone use is generally on the decline. Everyone's going wireless and using a cell phone and that's fine. But even if no one uses a pay phone in the future, I don't see the benefit of getting rid of them. Pay phones can still serve as privacy booths for cell phone users. If a pay phone is still in use, however, a cell phone user must allow the person who wants to make a pay phone call to use the space instead. I think pay phone booths should be kept because they can still be functional and remind people of how our technology has evolved over time.

Business crime lessons

Do you think it's a good idea to require all white-collar criminals (see Madoff and Jeff Skilling of Enron) to give, as part of their jail sentence lectures at business schools on corporate ethics? I assume that even if these guys haven't regretted their actions by then, seeing how a former high-paid executive who conducted fraud ended his career and how he justifies his actions years later can be a powerful lesson to students of business. Just out of curiosity, why are all white-collar corporate criminals men? Is it because the field is male dominated or is the nature of women to be honest when they run a company?
