The passsepartout key opens all the doors in a hotel. What about having 1 master golf club that you can use to make all the shots in golf? The shaft can be adjustable to the height of the person using it and the wood, iron and putter endings can be replaced depending on the shot. To make them easily replaceable yet firm and tightly adjusted to the shaft, magnet can be used. I think this would be great for beginners who do not need the whole 14 club set. It will also be easy and light to carry.

This line was used by Steve Jobs in his speech to graduates of Stanford University in 2005. If we take his advice literally, then Africa has the most potential to create millionaires and successful businessmen in the years to come.

The Africans stay "hungry" because they're "foolish" enough to think this way they'll make it rich one day. Unlike the Chinese or the Indians who do not seem to follow that logic anymore because they're smart enough to want to feed their people. What about all the millions of homeless people in the US? Any chance they might be following Job's advice? Mac hunger training perhaps?

I think it is all about getting priorities right. Food for thought or thought for food? What would you rather have more of? How can we best fight hunger and poverty around the world?

for those who have ever used those reversible belts they already know how useful it is. You pay for one belt but it's as if you have two of them.
What if they could make the same for the shoes. I saw today a nice pair of shoes and I was between black and brown. If there was a color trick like that one with the reversible belt my life would have been much easier. You buy one pair of shoes and you just reverse it to the color you want to put on.

Sorry guys, not what you were thinking. But I got your attention right? What if there was a free service that gave breathalizer tests outside crowded bars? The service could provide discounts on taxi services for people that are over the limit or some type of incentive for designated drivers. Sometimes creating awareness can make a world of difference. I think my friends would have appreciated a quick test instead of a DUI!

If the Church wants people to stay to the end during longer ceremonies why don't they make seats more comfortable? I think that if seating at the Church was more anatomic people would come more often and stay longer. In addition to good artists that make beautiful religious icons, I think the Church should also hire better seat designers

What is the obsession with having church seats made from wood? If a big fire ever breaks out in a church all the seats will burn like wood in a fireplace

The allergy season is around the corner in Japan. Hay fever allergy affects millions of people every year. It is caused by cedar pollen and pollen from the Japanese cypress or the white birch trees. What if air-condition systems in every building could spray anti-allergy medicine especially during the allergy season?

Masks, goggles, and even pollen-repellent coats can help a bit but once you get hay fever for the first time, it is hard to cure. If everywhere you go the space is sprayed with anti-allergy medication you will not have to worry if you forgot to take the allergy medication with you.

Uncaged shark feeding accident. Who's to blame?

I just read about a fatal accident that happened with a tourist that paid to swim among sharks. Many companies lately offer clients the opportunity for uncaged encounters with tiger sharks and great hammerheads, particular species which are known to Attack humans! They basically throw fish and meat into the water to attract a group of sharks and they then dive into the water to get very close to them. This is a dangerous activity.

Usually when a shark will attack a surfer or people swimming near a beach the authorities will try and locate the shark and kill it so that it doesn't attack again. In the case of uncaged shark feeding where people invite the sharks and deliberately swim with them unprotected who is to blame? Should the shark that made the attack be located and exterminated? Or should the companies that offer this service be sued?

I am also curious if the customers/tourists are asked to sign before they try this activity that they recognize this is an extreme and dangerous sport therefore the company devolves all responsibility if an attack happens! This is Crazy!!! What do you think?

Wi-Fi detector shirts notify you when there is wireless network nearby so you don't have to turn on your computer. Geeky stuff! What if the t-shirt could notify you every time you get a flirty 3-5 seconds glance from someone?

You would know how popular you are and you would also learn not to miss any flirty glances coming from pretty eyes nearby!

Before you decide to make a pass at someone you can check with your t-shirt to see if you might have missed spotting someone else nearby you rather flirt with first!

If you like to be discreet about it, I am sure the technology can be made to work on your mobile phone or watch so that only you know when someone glances at you.

Bars in Europe are filled with so much smoke that can make your eyes itch, red and full with tears if you stay too long. I always wear contact lenses when I go out and never had a problem with smoke. Last time I went out however I wore my glasses and within 20 minutes my eyes started to itch. Within the hour I had to leave with tears in my eyes. Next time you want to be touched by smoke in a smoke-filled bar, don't wear any contact lenses

How to fight corruption from pork barrel politics

Pork barrel politics is spending taxpayers money on projects that benefit special interests and lobbyists. Obama proposed that all such spending be reported online for the public to know where the money is spent. Knowing where the money was spent after it was spent helps transparency but doesn't give direct decision making power to the public. I think online majority vote for all such projects will give people full control.

Our democratic system works this way. On local or national elections people vote for their favorite party and representative based on their ideas and proposed policies. Most pork barrel projects however, even if they are promised and announced before election date do not include details. The devil of corruption however is in the details. We should keep in mind that a lot of new projects and their specifics are decided only after elections are over.

In order to give full control to citizens, voters and taxpayers I think it is a good idea to pass law that requires that for any large amount of public spending, majority vote is required by taxpayers whose money will be spent on that project. That will completely take away decision-making influence from the hands of lobbyists and special interests. This way not only transparency but also control will be preserved.

To those who might argue that this idea will make the system more inefficient, I say this. If you can report all transactions online with the click of a button at low cost, then you certainly can have taxpayers vote online in a day at minimal cost.

You with your girlfriend, she with her boyfriend. In a bar. You keep flirting each other with the eyes but can't find a way to exchange numbers to meet later. Your girlfriend all over you, her rich tough boyfriend all over her.

What if there was a software on mobile phones that sends your number and photo via blue tooth to whoever is close by, is female and also has the software activated on her side to receive your cheating vibes?

I expect at least two things to happen if such software is introduced.

1) Cheating on the rise
2) More dates with rich guys' girls

Here is why plastic flowers on the first date is brilliant. If the date doesn't go well, you can use the flowers on the next one.

Plastic flowers are also environmentally friendly, cause they help keep the real flowers in the soil, where they really belong!

I know some women might not like this idea at all, but those of you who will, you just proved your good sense of humor.

So, to my female supporters out there, I promise to buy you dinner all with your support.

If that sounds cheap, it isn't. It is called R-E-C-Y-C-L-I-N-G! Hope this idea will save you money and time on your next date. Thanks for supporting it. I promise not to use your support for dinner with my female supporters. I just need it for buying them plastic flowers!

What if we could create some kind of artificial partial solar eclipse?

This will reduce the amount of solar energy that gets to the earth.

I think I had read somewhere that some people had come up with the idea of creating large space-blankets that will orbit the earth and reflect sunlight back to the sun.

Whatever needs to be built, the main idea is this. Since we can't seem to have a way to remove green house gases from the atmosphere, we can at least try to reduce the amount of solar energy that gets to the Earth!

Any other ideas how to do so?

Marvel Killed the Comic Book Store

Not that long ago Marvel Comics began offering digital comic books on the web. Initially comic book store owners cried fowl but at least some complaints have died down.

Ultimately, Marvel faces a strategic problem and their online comics are a clear attempt to address the issue.

There are three kinds of comic book customers: those who want to read comics, those who want to collect comic books, and those who like to do both.

However, there is a conflict in satisfying the needs of collectors at the same time as readers. Comic books are currently made of high-quality sturdy paper and that makes them very expensive. Many comics cost .50 each month or even per issue.

In the golden age of comics they were printed on cheap paper and intended to be disposable. That was a great for young kids who could afford cheap issues of comics but such degradable material doesn't work for collectors.

Marvel Online won't kill comic book stores because most of us who'd like to read comics but consider them too expensive already, years ago, stopped buying at Comic Book Stores. Now Marvel has a chance to build their key brands again by getting their characters before more readers.

This is in tribute to a wise old man I met today. I was going down some steep stairs in a public place with my hands in the pocket. This old man was coming up and stopped me to tell me to get my hands out of my pockets. I said, why?

He said "Wise guys never place their hands in the pockets when going down the stairs. If you trip over you'll hit your face very hard. You'll have no time to use your hands to protect yourself. Take it as friendly advice from an old man young man!"

That was one of the best and smartest stair-walk advice ever given to me. For the old man to give me such advice I thought it must be because he probably tripped over himself in the past and fell down some stairs pretty badly. That past experience must have resulted into some kind of advice reflex for him!

The moment he saw me going down the stairs with my hands in my pockets, the memory of his fall prompted him to stop me and give me the advice.

Whatever it was, I think it was good advice worth mentioning here. Next time you go down the stairs and realize that your hands are in your pockets, think about the old man's advice!

What kind of advice do you think the old man would give to young people doing parkour training running down the stairs with the hands in their pockets?

Break a leg or break a head? :)

Why is car insurance mandatory?

I can understand why you need a car diploma to drive and why you must always carry it with you. I don't understand why car insurance must also be mandatory to have. If the reason is to always pay for any damaged caused in an accident, then why doesn't the law ask us to have insurance for anything that we do that might cause damage?

For example if I go out on a dinner and I get poisoned because of the meal I ate, then under the car insurance logic why isn't the restaurant owner required to have food poisoning insurance and reimburse me for any hospital expenses I incur under the law?

I think car insurance should not be mandatory under the law. Does anybody know the reason for which it is? What do you think? Should it be mandatory?

Public Healthcare

H. Clinton and Obama are advocating more requirements to own/provide health insurance. As a teacher, public healthcare seems very reasonable and humane. As an economist, I question if we are prepared for the changes in the supply and demand of doctors?

Just thinking ahead to the future. . . If more people own health insurance, I expect there will be an increase in doctor visits due to accessibility. There is already a shortage of doctors in the US. In 2010, doctors will be required to have computerized records of all patients. These new mandates will probably drive doctors (not ready for change) into early retirement.

We will need to prepare for these changes by 1) Increasing the supply of doctors 2)Decreasing the demand for doctors.

My ideas:
1)Provide incentives or money refunds to people who do not frequent the doctor's office.

2)Allow doctor's assistants (nurses) to prescribe antibiotics for more common illnesses (flu, cold, strep). I'm not sure how practical or safe this would be, but would be interested to hear a professional's response.

3)Shorten the length of medical school for doctors who specialize in more common illnesses.

4) Government funding for students in med school.

I'm referring to cleaning dishes by hand. The British have a belief I find very weird. They think that after they clean the dish with soap, they can let it dry on the rack without rinsing it first. They think it is ok. Personally, I think this is bad hygiene. If the soap/detergent dries on the plate, chances are that the chemical will find its way in your body next time you eat on that plate.

I used to have this argument countless times with my British roommates when I studied in England. While it is true that the plate is clean from the dirt, what they don't understand is that it is not safe if you don't rinse it! Do you think it is ok to let the soap dry on the plate?
