Would you read happy news only? I hope Not!

I am not against sites whose content is to publish news with a positive message only. But I am against people who get their news from that one source only. If we are not informed about all the bad and negative that happens in our world, how will we get motivated to make our world a better place? If we think that everything around us is only good and positive no matter how inspirational that may be, it's also very delusional and dangerous when everything else is ignored.

Japan and shoe-care

During my time in Japan I learned to take extra good care of my shoes and always carried a small shoe-polish with me. Why? Notice how the Japanese don't shake hands but bow when they greet each other. That means they always look straight into each other's shoes. If you ever go to Japan to work that's a good little tip to know!

Not impressed with men's parking skills

Ok I'll admit that I am hopeless at parallel parking but if men are as good as they claim to be in parking cars even in tight spots why are they so lousy finding a woman's g-spot and parking themselves there??

What we should definetely highlight is my vibrator. He parks himself perfectly in every necessary spot! And since i am also hopeless in parallel parking maybe i should use him while i am parking my car, he might give me the extra skills i need.

Well, considering the g-spot isn't visible, maybe we should give men a break in that area. rather, we should highlight those men who can't find the essential "C" spot (which is a lot more visible than a hidden curb while parallel parking), well... maybe they need a lesson on the female anatomy, or perhaps their girlfriends need a lesson in assertiveness to tell their boyfriends EXACTLY what they need to DO IT RIGHT and stop trying to protect their pseudo-Casanova egos. Could we lay blame on the girlfriends for creating the men who think they're god's gift to women? Anyone care to comment?

Madoff was released on a $10 million personal recognizance bond secured by his $7 million Manhattan apartment. But because he failed to secure the required number of co-signers for his bail bond home detention was required. No chance of leaving the country now for a Ponzi-friendly jurisdiction...Madoooooff if you give me $1 million I'll jump in and co-sign on that bond. It's all for the public good! I have so many debts and people to pay and I promise to spend all the remaining money on charities and the economy. good comedy Warning!

Silence is gold but laugh can be fatal. I don't know if it's possible to ban eating and drinking in the movies, especially in comedies, but I happened to witness a couple choking to death from laughing out loud while eating and drinking since the start of the movie. Sounds crazy but it wasn't funny to hear them choking and patting each other in the back. Not that a warning in the beginning of the movie will avert a potential choking but at least there will be no excuse that people were not warned!

Women who are pretty and draw their self-confidence from their good looks envy plain-looking women that are popular because it makes them realize that to be popular you don't have to depend on looks. Good Relationship Banking

I have been doing some re-reading of a favorite book of mine "Emotional Intelligence" by Daniel Goleman. In one of the chapters it talks about John Gottman, a University of Washington psychologist who has charted the emotional ecology of marriage with such precision that, in one study, he was able to predict which couples seen in his lab would divorce within 3 years with 94% accuracy!!! This is how he does it:

While the couples talk, sensors record the slightest flux in their physiology; a second-by-second analysis of their facial expressions (using the system for reading emotions developed by Paul Ekman) detects the most fleeting and subtle nuance of feeling. The result is akin to an emotional X-ray of the marriage.

What does this have to do with banking you might be thinking. Well, this is my thought.

Although it would be good for all couples to go through such emotional analysis of their relationship/marriage, we can't force people to do it. What we could do is to give every couple a financial incentive to try it.

Set up a new type of bank that grants loans to married couples on the condition that they pass John Gottman's test. If your marriage is proven to have a 94% chance to succeed and doesn't lead to a divorce, it's probably a good chance that the couple will work well with each other to solve out financial difficulties that arise in the future.

I don't mean to suggest that all married couples that stay together will fully repay their loans but the premise is that loans to couples who can stay together and solve their problems in ways that are not destructive can be more reliable.

It's just another metric to add to the decision to grant a loan if you are a bank. I admit it is an unusual practice/metric to add. But if good relationships lead to less loan delinquency and this metric is set as a condition before granting a loan, it will also bring social good in addition to more reliable profits for banks.

In the midst of the worst credit crisis and major scams such as the Madoff scandal, a lot of people talk about going back to the basics of banking, building anew relationships of trust. Investment banking used to be described as relationship banking in the not too distant past. Making loans to couples whose relationship is good can be Good Relationship Banking in the most literal sense of the term.

Lyrics are the key to good music, not just melody or tune

I was looking at a list of songs from all genres of music that have stayed popular to this day. They all have great melody and tune, what we call music! But I noticed that all of them also had amazing lyrics, lyrics that speak to the heart and soul. I think that if music is another way to express inner poetry tuned in melody, then lyrics are the key to the all time success of a song with good music.

Pop songs these days have either too few lyrics that get repeated too often or no lyrics at all. No wonder they will stay number 1 on the charts for a short while and then be forgotten. Not all music that comes out is bad, but music with good lyrics is rare I think.

What do you think? Have you ever wondered why it is that you like to play some of the songs on your ipod more often than others? How often do you sing or whisper the lyrics of a good song you like?

If you are a singer, or you would like to become one one day, shouldn't you also try to write your own lyrics as well before you rest assured on your good voice only?
