Would it be too embarrassing to order just dessert?

Dessert is a course that typically comes at the end of a meal but I am thinking that in a weak economy people should become creative with cost-cutting and try to keep doing as many of the activities they were used to as possible. One is going out to eat in a restaurant. I guess I can eat at home and then go out in a restaurant with my friends and just order dessert and perhaps a drink to go with it.

Restaurants which will experience a huge drop in business need not advertise their plight in their websites by saying they accept dessert-only meals but if customers come in and order just dessert they should be happy to provide it and train the staff not to express any sign of surprise when they take the order.

camera ommission

i would like to know what kind of energy bars and drinks federer and nadal used yesterday at the australia open final. the stuff that keeps them going during long and intense games. unfortunately the camera never zoomed in close enough to get a good look at it. don't pro athletes have sponsors for everything, including energy drinks?

tennis rackets, shoes, clothes, bags, towels, they all get close ups in order to advertise the sponsors but for some reason that's not the case with the energy drinks or food.

i wonder why...on a totally different note, what if the powerbars they eat came in the shape of the medal??

Lemon mint granita in lemon. Totally. Lemon.

You can get it pretty much in every restaurant in Israel. They are, single-handedly, the most refreshing thing I have ever tasted. Called lemonana. It's bold lemon and mint served in lemon. It's the perfect antidote to the sticky, oppressive summer days to come - frosty, crunchy and tart. You can eat it with a spoon or a fork. Highly recommended to try!

Smoking Elephant

I stumbled upon this sign at a restaurant in Tokyo. First I wondered what it might mean. No smoking, sneezing and drinking elephants allowed in the restaurant? No blowing cylindrical items in here? Imaginative and cute for a "No Smoking" sign you will probably only see in Japan.

Bar and Restaurant Menus

I was at a bar restaurant recently and I was sitting in a dark area of the store. I could not really read the menu due to the lack of light. I thought it would be good to have menus printed with reflective letters so that they light and make it easier to read them. Maybe only for the name of the drinks and food but not for the prices :-)

Who do they think they are these bartenders??

They are mere employees, their status no higher than that of the cleaning lady but they act as if they own the place. You stand there waiting to give your order and they ignore you. They pretend to keep order but they serve whoever they want first. When you talk to them to remind them it's your turn, they give you that eat-shit look that says I know but I'll serve you when I want. Then they turn around and serve others, usually girls who came to the bar after. Next time I go to that bar I'll bring my own drinks and ask that lowlife to throw them away for me. That should remind this prick of who he is and what he does. Some bartenders are so full of shit they forget that.

bring your own drink to the bar. Get a discount

You go to a bar where they serve a beer for 4 euros when they bought it for 2 euros. Their profit is 2 euros. What is there was a place where you could bring your own drink and you just had to pay the profit to the bar. In this case bring your own beer and just pay 2 euros!

There could be two prices in the catalogue. One for those who bring the drinks on their own and one for those who order the drink at the bar. It's up to the customer if he thinks it's better for his budget to bring his own drink

Would you refund someone if you drank from his or her cup?

I witnessed this incident in a bookstore cafe. The cafe had a large round sofa with small tables in between for people to place their drinks. Next to me was sitting a woman in her thirties and next to her was a guy in his twenties. There was a table between them where they both placed their cups of coffee. The cups looked identical and they were placed too close to each other.

The guy and the woman seemed very absorbed at what they were reading. At some point the woman, apparently by mistake and without realizing it, grabbed the guy's cup and sipped from it. After a while the guy realizes it as there is lipstick on his cup!

The guy then starts complaining to the woman next to him. She apologizes. He then asks her to refund his coffee since she had just admitted it was her fault. The woman apologizes again but refuses to give a refund. The guy then becomes irritated and they get in an argument. The woman does not bulge, so he goes to the shop's cashier nearby to complain.

It gets better. The guy starts talking to the person at the cashier and he keeps pointing at the woman. At some point the woman who is watching this goes over the counter where the arguing gets louder and I can hear them very clearly!

The guy who had asked for the manager in the meantime demands that the shop refunds him for the mistake the woman had done. The manager agrees to do so! The woman, however, is very upset at all this and asks from the shop to not refund this guy because it was not the shop's fault what the customer had done with his cup of coffee...

Interesting huh? It gets better...

The cafe manager finally settles the dispute by offering to buy both the woman and the guy a new cup of coffee. The woman gets her coffee first and goes to sit back at her seat. The guy's coffee takes a bit more time to prepare, so by the time he is ready to go back to his seat, a friend of the woman who had just arrived a few minutes earlier takes his seat. At this point the cafe is crowded and there is no other seat where the guy can sit! Shit happened, right?

You can probably imagine what happened next. The guy becomes very upset and he starts arguing with the two ladies that this was his seat and that they should give it back to him...

Wish I had a camera with me to videotape this incident. It was one of those very rare incidents where you catch people arguing too much and in a somewhat absurd manner for things that seem too trivial. Or are they?

What do you think? Should the woman have refunded the guy? Why did the shop owner agree to refund the guy if it was the shop's fault? Why did the woman demand that the shop not refund the guy?

Any chance these two might have been a team of actors playing some kind of trick on a TV show? I looked around but there was no camera or TV crew...

I don't know. What would you have done if you had found yourself in that situation? If you had sipped someone else's coffee by mistake? Would you refund it?

Turn off your mobile phone, don't play with your keys but feel free to eat pop-corn or snacks while watching a movie. Silence is gold but gold is hard to get in the movies! Pop-corn munching, paper folding...if the theater is full, then eating corn and drinking pop makes very annoying noise. If silence Is gold, why don't we ban pop-corn and other food in the movies so we can all get rich?

What about a microwave that cools down your hot food or drink to the temperature you wanted?

It has happened to me many times, I order a coffee or hot chocolate and they serve it so hot, I have to wait for a few minutes before I take a sip or I burn my lips and tongue.

Could be useful. You can ask the staff back, could you cool down for me a bit?

Got a name for it too: Coolwave

I know, it sounds like name of shampoo or something...
