Personalized smileys

I would like to use smileys that look like me when I chat. A free online software where you submit your photo and it converts it to different smileys to choose from would be nice to have. Make it easy to import them into any chat program. An option to automatically take photos of me when I use web cam on a chat and convert them to smileys would be great because it would allow for a large variety of facial expressions to choose from. Does anyone here know if it exists already? Thanks.

If a tourist memorizes the whole name and pronounces it accurately, don't they deserve to receive free holidays there? After all, how many people in the world know about this place and how many of them who will ever visit can pronounce it right? Come on, free holidays to Llanfairpwll...#$%^**$% lol

MySpace vs Facebook. Let the battle begin!

Facebook is adding a "username" to people's account to "easily direct friends, family, and coworkers to your profile". Is my full name not enough to direct someone to my profile? I logged into MySpace account for the first time in a few weeks and I noticed they have a new bar at the bottom of the page...just like Facebook...with online friends and chat...just like Facebook. And yet Facebook is letting you choose a username...just like Myspace. We all know that Myspace is to Facebook like Yahoo is to Google. Tom and Jerry Zuckerberg. Mark your posts!

Life Without The Internet

Can you imagine it? I can't. I would struggle to get through the day without my fix. In that sense it's not much different from any other addiction. If you can't have it then you begin to exhibit withdrawal symptoms. These symptoms could include:

Feeling of purposelessness in life.

A general volatility in temper.

Starting up your web browser just to watch the error message and to gaze wistfully at the now-lifeless status bar.

Attempting to reconstruct the google search page in your head and fondly reminiscing about the good old days.

Frantically loading any saved web pages you may have in your cache to gaze lovingly at them. But it's like entering a Ferrari showroom, you can feel and get in the car, but you can't drive it anywhere. The showroom manager won't even let you take it on a test drive because he can sense you would never be able to afford it.

Just to clarify, the net is working fine now. But there have been times in my life, when my happiness has been cruelly crushed, when all hope is driven out of me to be replaced by a bleak vacuum of nothingness. There have been times when the internet stopped working.

Home-delivery meal-planning

For a while I've wanted to start an online home-delivery meal-planning business. Most people I know in Australia who are on meal-planning start it because they want to cut down on the cost of groceries and put an end to wasteful spending. At the moment, no meal-planning business in Australia offers home-delivery which means people either have to shop through another online retailer or go out and buy the ingredients. Either option defeats the purpose of saving money and cutting down on buying stuff you don't really need.

I think people who are on meal-planning will like the idea of not having to go out to shop and be tempted. My home-delivery meal-planning business will only stock and deliver what is on the list. I think this idea can sell very well. I want to ask people on this site for feedback.

Travel buddy

I have time and money and I want to spend it traveling. None of my friends can join me because they are too busy looking for a job or working hard to pay off their debts. I can't push them and I don't think I can travel by myself. I have never traveled alone and I don't want to. I would like to find a travel buddy to join me and soon. I am not looking to make friends, I am looking for someone who is in a similar position to the one I am, wants to travel, can travel but can't find anyone to join. An online matching site for travel buddies to hook up is something I need but nobody has thought to start one. So, if you can recommend me a travel buddy, I'd be grateful.

Online TV summary for busy people

There are so many shows I would love to watch but I don't have the time anymore. I would like to see an online service that would give me 30 minute or 1 hour video summaries of all my favorite shows and TV programs (national and cable), from comedy shows to reality to interviews and news. That would be a service I wouldn't mind paying a monthly fee for. Anyone interested in starting it?

How to make money from Social Networks Terrorism!

The Israeli government warned that terrorism groups are using Facebook and other social networking sites to recruit Israeli citizens as spies and asked its citizens to beware.

If you receive a message from someone you don't know asking you to pass classified information for payment, he could be a terrorist. This is so stupid. And so easy to make tons of money from the terrorists without undermining national security. Agree to the deal, request that the money gets deposited to your account and do a Google search to find info related to the one they ask you, then write it up and email it. You get the money and secret service can track the source of the payment too. Top secret classified info cannot be confirmed right away by any terrorist, if they had the ability to do that they wouldn't be asking it from you in the first place. This is a stupid way to advertise Facebook but even if it was true it's potentially profitable, so why not, what the heck!

Special glasses for laptop use in plane

Some airlines (Delta, United, Virgin etc) are rushing to offer Wi-Fi internet connections in economy. Most people cite cramped space on the tray table as the major problem for laptop use in a flight but I think privacy is a more serious problem. Text chatting with my girlfriend or friends, I wouldn't want the guys sitting next to me reading what I write. We are all curious creatures by nature and easily tempted to read into everything that gets displayed on someone else's computer screen.

One way to solve the privacy issue is with special use glasses that the passenger puts on to watch what is displayed on the computer screen which stays turned off. I looked up online and found out that head mounted display glasses already exist. They connect to common video sources and are ideal for mobile entertainment and information applications.

I expect that as in-flight Wi-Fi becomes available and people take their laptops with them, there will be a big demand for use of such glasses to protect privacy. I think it's a smart investment to buy stocks of companies that make them.

Are you in favor or against people marrying online?

The idea is to give people the extra option to marry online if they want to. Make online civil marriages as legally binding as the ones performed at the mayor's office. It's becoming all the more common to meet people online and spend hours chatting on the net and form real relationships, so why not give people the option to marry online if they want to? The benefits are reduced costs, faster planning and an opportunity for new virtual-wedding businesses to develop. We could describe these web weddings in one word 'Webdings'.

Webdings will probably result in an increase in cross-border weddings. To prevent fake international marriages done for immigration purposes only, the couple will have to submit to the authorities of the country they wish to reside a chronological resume of their online relationship which will have to have a duration of at least a couple of years.

I think it is an interesting concept and the public debate about it should start online.

YouTube Dictionary

I think an online multi-language Video Dictionary is still missing from the web. Text definitions should be replaced with voice and image definitions. An online dictionary where users upload video definitions of words using images, video clips and presentations. Since it would require large storage capacity, I thought You Tube would be the ideal platform for it.

How to make Google smarter

Google ranks the web by popularity. Wouldn't it be great if we could rank the web by intelligence or other attributes? People's IQ is measured in tests, why not measure the content of websites similarly and then filter search results accordingly?

Google probably has the brains and resources to offer such service in the future. For example, if I do a keyword search for 'subprime market tips', I want to filter the display of my search results so that I get the websites with most intelligent content only and not those with the most popular content. I know it sounds nice but people might say it's not possible to do. Google succeeded as a search engine because it was smarter due to the accuracy of its searches. Why not add intelligence or other attributes in the display of its searches?

Web 3.E? (e for everything)

What if major websites such as Amazon, iTunes, Netflix, NYT etc teamed up with major ISPs to offer for a flat monthly fee an internet service connection that comes with unlimited download of books, movies, songs, articles, papers, website memberships etc? Say for $100 a month or whatever deal will make sense, I would not only get a fast internet connection but also free access to the iTunes store, Netflix and Amazon where I can download as many movies, songs and books I want.

It sounds like a crazy idea and a business model that is not viable. I believe though that in the future we will move into a model where everything digital will be offered as a package. That's because digitization and the internet cannibalizes prices and in so doing we get to consume it more and more as a way of life. So maybe another 10 years and we will move closer to this all-in-one-package model. The concept is not new, some restaurants offer all you can eat deals, why not the same for internet and online service providers?

Does the flu scare you?

The source of the virus reminds me of the Black Swan theory by Nicholas Taleb. A Black Swan is defined as an event which is unpredictable but once it breaks out its consequences are massive.

Experts say up to 30 million people could die if a pandemic breaks out. The economic loss is massive. People fear to go out, buy less and the economy collapses. People order food supplies from home and spray the bags before they take them inside. All life moves online because the virus can't yet transmit through the PC no matter how many peer to peer connections are open or illegal downloads are made. But what if the virus is that of a Black Swan, what if it mutates and starts spreading over the internet all of a sudden? What do you do Then?? Why are you still reading this?

universal internet language

how about a universal internet language that will allow everyone to communicate without the need for a translator? if the internet connects the whole world with the click of a button, then its universal language can help everyone communicate with whomever they want.

I am not suggesting that this new language replaces national languages, I am suggesting that it is learned as a second language early on in school, same way people learn english, french, german etc

if the whole world will interact, communicate and trade more and more online in the future, a new, simple and universal internet language can help facilitate the process. to me, the need for coming up with such new language makes sense.

kids can learn it online from a young age. adults should be able to pick it up pretty fast. a few ideas on how such an artificial language can be constructed. the grammar, syntax and pronunciation should be simple. it should have precise words for different concepts so that any meaning conveyed is clear. less ambiguity the better. this is because people will use it to trade and make business online.

I can't think of any other rules at the moment. can you? what is your opinion on this subject?

More power plugs needed in airports

Why aren't there more plugs in airports to power your laptop longer while you wait for your flight? What's the point of offering wireless internet service everywhere in an airport when there aren't enough plugs around to power it longer?

This is bad business for companies that offer wireless internet service in airports. If I only had 1 hour of battery left in my laptop, I would only pay for 1 hour of internet service even though I could have paid more to stay online longer had there been more plugs around!
