Every summer huge areas of forest are lost as a result of fires started by arsonists or plain accidents. Unfortunately when weather conditions are unfavorable they get so big that it is impossible to turn them off. Why not develop some type of liquid that you could throw on areas of the forest that would make trees and plants resistant to fire for an extended period of time like months or perhaps years and prevent the plants from burning. The liquid would have to be harmless to plants. The method would be similar to the planes and helicopters that throw water to extinguish the fire but water dries out in a few hours.

laundry-proof money
i'm definitely one of those people who forget money in their pant pockets very often and before i know it the money's put in the laundry and gets laundered!! that's not bad when i earn it under the table but these days i still work in the pay-your-taxes economy so when i put decent money in the laundry it gets destroyed. so my girlfriend suggested that since there is nothing more she can do with my faulty memory she'll buy me bills that are water-proof and detergent-resistant. i initially liked her idea so i kept going and told her she worries too much i'll go back to earning money that Needs laundering. interesting what silly topics you get to think and talk with your girlfriend sometimes. water-proof money, yeah right! :)

The Global Warming Conspiracy?
Disclaimer: I have few, if any facts to support what I am about to post and I'm not even sure I believe it myself. It's just a thought.
It seems to me that environmentalists may have been played like a stradivarius on this one. Not so long ago, environmentalists were actually doing good things and making substantial progress, especially in the area of pollution (clean air and water, hiking trails etc).
But now you don't seem to hear much about that anymore, all you hear about is this nebulous sword of Damocles known as Global Warming. I get the sneaking suspicion that it was all orchestrated, with marvelous success, to divert attention away from real progress and regulations pertaining to fundamental environmental issues.
As long as there is no agreement and people are kept arguing, nothing gets done...about anything.

Swimimng pool thoughts
People these days post their thoughts from anywhere thanks to iphones and blackberries. This convenience is liberating because you can't make a date with your thoughts and expect that they stick to it. I know I do a lot of thinking when I swim and like to swim every day if I could. It's rhythmic, quiet and soothing. I think of it as meditating in water and most swimmers I know think the same. On my way to my regular swim yesterday I was thinking that the pool is one of those places where people can't post their thoughts as they come to them. In my view, many good thoughts are wasted because swimmers do a lot of thinking in the water but it's very hard to remember them after.
I could take the blackberry with me and have it by the side of the pool but I am always worried someone might accidentally step on it or drop it in the water. I know it's probably too much to have touch keypad waterproof screens on the side or at the end of each lap only for people to post their thoughts. But if the screens were mainly used to take measurements from lap times to heartbeats similar to what people get in a sport gyms from a running machine, it probably wouldn't be difficult to connect the device to the internet and allow people to post thoughts from within the pool as they take breaks.

The Catholic Church bans use of condoms
If you sprinkle holy water inside a condom and contraception didn't work, does the child have God's blessing? Can you avoid contracting HIV if you sprinkle your penis with holy water and not use the condom? I don't understand why the Catholic Church bans the use of condoms yet spends a lot of money to pay for HIV treatments. How much more guilty can they feel inside their hearts....

A solution to taking frozen water bottles - Summer is here in the southern hemisphere, and outdoor activities can be tough and sometimes dangerous if you don't rehydrate, and nothing beats the good ol' water! To help cool down faster, I've seen people taking frozen water in a bottle, but the ice doesn't melt faster enough to satisfy the thirst! Try this instead: fill up a plastic water bottle 1/2 or 3/4 full and let it freeze. When ready to take it outdoors, fill the remaining 1/2 or 1/4 of the bottle with tap water or mineral water. Adjust the water level to freeze depending on how fast/slow you want the ice to melt. Add a bit of lime or lemon juice, not only to help the metabolism but also to help the metabolism.

Seattle is about 3,000 miles from New York. Spread oil on the ground on a 3,000 mile straight line that connects Seattle to NY. Light a match in Seattle, drop it on the starting point of the line and fire will finally make it to NY because oil is flammable. Oil will not only carry fire through, it will also create a total amount of fire much larger than the initial small amount found on the match. What if we could replace fire and oil with water and another water-"flammable" substance?
Why can't we come up with a water-flammable compound that works on water the same way fire works on oil? A substance that can carry water through from Seattle to NY and in the process produce a total amount of water larger than the initial drop amount.
Can the property that is causing flammability in oil when it comes into contact with fire be re-engineered and transferred to other substances?
Water shortage could be solved, large forest fires could be put out in a few minutes on a single drop of water or spit. Just think aboud id :)

I'm referring to cleaning dishes by hand. The British have a belief I find very weird. They think that after they clean the dish with soap, they can let it dry on the rack without rinsing it first. They think it is ok. Personally, I think this is bad hygiene. If the soap/detergent dries on the plate, chances are that the chemical will find its way in your body next time you eat on that plate.
I used to have this argument countless times with my British roommates when I studied in England. While it is true that the plate is clean from the dirt, what they don't understand is that it is not safe if you don't rinse it! Do you think it is ok to let the soap dry on the plate?

Water turns fatty food into light food

If a light food product you buy in the supermarket means a product with less calories, then you can turn every food into light food by adding water to it. Most calorie measurements in food are based on samples of 100 grams, so if you add water the 100 grams become 200 but the calories stay the same or are less as percentage of the overall intake
Products I can think of this can apply are alcohol, beer, wine, yogurt, soups, milk shakes, ice cream, coke etc
The taste might be diluted but will still be the same. If you turn normal food products into light ones this way, you will also be saving money as light products are usually more expensive compared to the original ones!

What about using distilled water to rinse dishes from soap?
I think that would make it safer for our health because after the water dries, on the surface of the dishes there are remnants left from the impurities found in the regular tap water.

good idea to consume less water is to collect water from rain on rooftop of every building and purify/clean with filter first. then use it for washing dishes, laundry, shower etc, saves money and water!
