Why the China man won't spend

SunTzu said: If the enemy is weak because he overspent, don't overspend or you'll become weak too. Said it but didn't write it.

SunTzu then said and wrote: "All warfare is based on deception...If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles"

The world hopes the Chinese and the other Asians will spend the West out of recession. Ok, here is why if you read SunTzu you know this will never happen.

The Chinese know themselves. They like to save. They look at the West and they see that it overspent and is in trouble. What's the lesson they get?

Stick to saving. Don't do what your rival did and got him in trouble. Just give the appearance you might in the form of big government spending plans.

How deception works. The government announces big spending plans and the world thinks the Chinese man will suddenly start spending. But the Chinese man will not do that because he knows it will get him into same trouble as the Western man.

He remembers Sun Tzu and decides to save a big portion of the money in order to buy the enemy later and win the battle without a fight.

Sun Tzu said: He who hearkens to my counsel and acts upon it, will conquer.

Time to read Sun Tzu from the Chinese man's point of view!

The defeat (?) of American-style capitalism

Nobel prize economists are saying that this economic crisis will eventually pass but a big loser will be support for American-style capitalism. Does this mean that if the crisis happened during the Cold War the Soviet Union would have been the winner now? That's scary, isn't it? What's your impression of Obama's beliefs on war?

My impression is that Obama doesn't believe in war and wants to stir the world in that direction. That's not to say he doesn't believe in the use of force to go after terrorists in Pakistan. From his speeches and interviews, however, I rarely get the impression that in the back of his mind he seriously contemplates an attack on Iran or North Korea as the right policy, even if forced into that situation. Excluding another direct attack on America, I have the feeling Obama might be the first President to end his term(s) without presiding over a war.

Why Bush should Never have called it 'The War On Terror'

The US was able to torture terrorists captured in Afghanistan and elsewhere using 'enforced interrogation' techniques on 'enemy combatants' whom it refused to call 'prisoners of war'. That's because 'prisoners of war' are covered by the Geneva Convention which strictly bans torture. Yet our so smart former President repeatedly stated the country is at war all those years and kept calling it 'The War on Terror'. It follows by definition that in any war, prisoners can Only be prisoners of war. Duh! Do you see why Bush should never have, not even once, called it 'The War on Terror'? Define stupidity if you can't see the imbecility and you'll figure it out.

With Obama stating that 'enhanced interrogation' is torture, we have, as a country, irrevocably damaged our moral high ground on human rights. We have also perfected practicing hypocrisy and imbecility combined as our very inalienable and totally unique skill set. What a great accomplishment to lock ourselves in never-ending ridicule by the rest of the world!

Beware Greeks inspiring sex strikes!

I read on the news that women in Kenya are on sex strike to force the government and opposition to stop bickering and look after the interest of their country. Although I've never been to Kenya, I think the news tell us that women must have no political power in that country. Why would they use sex to bring political change otherwise? In the article I read that the strike was inspired by Ancient Greece. In Aristophane's comedy Lysistrata, the ladies of 5th century BC Athens withheld sex from their menfolk to force them to put an end to the Peloponnesian war!

I must admit I haven't read Aristophane's original guide to a sex strike, but I have the following two observations to make. First, it is well known that homosexuality was strongly practiced in Ancient Greece, so how effective could a sex strike really have been? Second, assuming the strike can be very effective, could It have been the culprit that drove men into homosexuality?

If Aristophane's comedy was an inspiration to women in Kenya, my advice is to be careful about how long they carry out the strike. Ancient Greece was the bastion of homosexuality so it might not be the best example to follow :)
