Merit-based scholarship and how to improve it

Usually merit-based scholarship is given if the student maintains a minimum GPA. How about changing this rule and make merit-based scholarship available based on the improvement a student makes on any subject from one semester to the next? If a student last semester got a C in math and this semester improved her grade to B she gets $1,000, if the grade was improved to A she gets $2,000. If she got the highest grade she can get and managed to maintain it then the scholarship will be a fixed amount, say $500 or something. If the grades drop she gets no money.

The amounts will be the same across all subjects. The differences in the amounts will only be determined based on the degree of grade improvement. I think this system gives stronger incentives for students to perform better at school.

act-dead to survive the death-act

from what i read on the news and saw on tv terrorists in mumbai would roam the building and kill people. if you try to run away you certainly make yourself a target and if you rather sit doing nothing then you probably have better chances if you pretend you're dead. do you think acting dead could help you survive a terrorist hostage situation like the one that happened in india? it's possible.

lie down among other people's dead bodies, cover yourself with blood in the face and hands, take very very small breaths and stay still. that requires training. acting schools could offer that. the act-dead kit will basically have capsules to simulate blood stains and shot wounds.

Wear your panties

A teenage girl comes to school for the yearbook photo shoot wearing a skirt but wears no panties. She sits in the front row and doesn't cross her legs. The yearbook gets published and distributed to school families. The girl's Sharon Stone basic instinct is fully displayed on the photo and her parents are embarrassed. They demand the school recalls and destroys the books and reprints them. Who's to take the blame and pay for the reprint costs? The family? The photographer? The school?

Clever. Punctuation!

I saw this posted on a blackboard as a test question for a class titled Visual Communication. An English professor wrote the words: 'A woman without her man is nothing' then asked his students to punctuate it correctly. All the males in the class wrote: 'A woman, without her man, is nothing.' All the females in the class wrote: 'A woman: without her, man is nothing.' Explain. I don't know who thought of that test question, but I think it's clever. Punctuation is. Powerfu!

Paintball the answer to school shootings?

After the recent shootings in Germany must schools everywhere introduce paintball games as part of the curriculum to allow deranged, depressed or mentally unstable students to release their anger and rage? Teachers will participate and measure student anger from the amount of paint drawn on them. The guns will have detectors to measure the intensity with which a trigger is pressed and once the data is collected look for patterns that reveal anger. One more thought. Europeans claim America is a very violent society and gun ownership is the problem. I let the incident answer the claim. Last time I checked no one reported it was red paint that killed those innocent German students...
