Reuse of illegal drugs

I think it's a good idea to re-use illegal drugs that are seized by the police and supply hospitals and marijuana dispensaries for medical treatment use. Why burn or destroy what gets confiscated when we can use it and save our health system some money.

Tear gas for self-defence

Big riots in Greece so out of control are rare but I've seen them happen in other countries too (US, France). My experience in Greece is that shop owners are completely defenseless, the Greek police cannot protect the streets or the shops. I remember when Bill Clinton visited Athens and the city was burnt down. He cut his trip short and went for a 'safe' trip in Turkey next door. As a better alternative to guns or hiring snipers from abroad, shop owners in Greece should arm themselves with tear gas and use it to protect their property. It takes 1 hothead shop owner to start shooting at protesters destroying his property or threatening his life. If caught he can claim self-defense.

But with no police around and fire and smoke all over no one will see him or his sniper firing. This is the scenario of all hell breaking loose with many dead people. If the police can't protect, tear gas is better self-defense to guns.

For UK police dial 007 or 1-800-Superman (USA)

For psychological reasons why not change the universal emergency telephone number in every country to something more inspiring and reassuring taken from pop culture?

For the UK the number can be 007 and for the US something like 1-800-Superman. Imagine you are in an emergency in the UK and your friend asked you to call 007 for help! Wouldn't you pick up the phone right away to talk to 007? :) Give your suggestion for a 'cool' emergency phone number in your country :D

"ethnic unrest in china leads to mass arrests"

that's the front page title on cnn and then we read that 1,434 people were detained. that's a lot if you live in the us, but if you live in china whose population is more than 1 billion, how mass-ive is that? more impressive is the speed with which the police immediately cracked down on that "mass protest" than its actual mass. wondering what a chinese person thinks when he hears the number, does he really think it's a big protest or a small one? most probably he never hears of the protest and we will never know.

Are YOU good at reading human nature correct?

A new law effective immediately dictates that any criminal/illegal activity by any professional in an industry automatically results in uniform salary reduction for everyone. The money is put in a trust fund to be used as compensation to the victim(s). Everyone shares the financial pain equally so there is strong incentive to enforce strict discipline from within (police abuse, ponzi schemes etc). After a year data shows a sharp decline in criminal/illegal activity. Which do you think took place? More self-discipline? Or more cover up??

Am I socially responsible for posting this thought?

I just read on CNN about a new fingerprinting technique that enables scientists to detect fingerprints on spent bullets and shell casings, even when the print is wiped off. It works by detecting the minute corrosion of metal caused by sweat, which corrodes the metal in the shape of the fingerprint. The article concludes by saying that the technique won't work, if a person has just washed their hands or put on gloves before loading a gun. Is it socially responsible to report this kind of news?

What if, out of the millions of people that will read the article on CNN, a few might commit a crime in the future using a gun and what if they take all the necessary precautions to make sure their fingerprints don't get detected because they had read the article?

We can't blame freedom of speech, the media or the internet for how well or not well people plan and execute gun crimes. But since not all news or information ever gets reported, what purpose does reporting this technological advance serve? Would it have been more socially responsible if the media did not report about it?

What about me? What about my re-reporting this news here and spreading the story and informing more people about it? Am I also socially responsible? Should I have not posted this? What purpose does my thought warning about the danger of spreading information that could be used to a criminal's advantage serve?

My thought is powerless to prevent the potentially negative effect it itself predicts. I am under no illusion about that. The info is out there already and no one can take it down now. But still, by writing these lines, I am contributing to the fact that more people know about it now than if I hadn't written them.

What if some people reading my thought right now will end up killing someone in the future with a gun and what if they take all the precautions I mentioned here? What if they write to me to thank me for letting them know about it? What if they start leaving comments saying 'thank you' or something? What if YOU - reading my thoughts right now! - left me a comment saying 'thank you mister egghead for letting me know', will it be a joke? How sincerely or seriously should I take it?

I feel so guilty posting this but I can't help it. I want you to read my thoughts and realize that our media and I are both socially responsible for posting this. I want you to see what an egghead I am, so selfish and so vain-driven my mind is :)
